Aston Villa sign Emiliano Martínez for £20M
The 28-year-old goalkeeper signed a four-year contract with the Villa after leaving Arsenal.
Aston Villa have completed the signing of goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from Arsenal for a fee of £20M, the club announced on Wednesday.
Martinez, who joined Arsenal in 2012 from Independiente played 15 Premier League games for the Gunners during his eight years at the Emirates Stadium including nine in last season after club’s number one Bernd Leno got injured against Brighton.
The Argentina under 20 international impressed during his short spell for Arsenal in the closing stages of last season, helping the club to win The FA Cup and Community Shield.
He was left out of the squad for Arsenal’s first league match of the new season against Fulham due to the rumoured move to Villa which is now confirmed.
Martinez is Villa’s third major acquisition of the summer after defender Matty Cash and striker Ollie Watkins, where is expected to be the club’s number one goalkeeper for the 2020/21 season.
Aston Villa host Sheffield United on September 21 in their Premier League opener.
