Benfica announce Jan Vertonghen arrival on a three-year deal
Former Spurs defender joined the Primeira Liga side after eight years at the club.
Benfica have confirmed the signing of defender Jan Vertonghen on a three year deal, the club announced on Friday.
Vertonghen joined Benfica on a free transfer after leaving Spurs last month following the expiry of his contract.
The 33-year-old made 315 appearances for Spurs in all competitions during his eight years with the club and was also a part of the squad that reached the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League final.
Capped 118 times by Belgium, the defender represented his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup where the team finished third. He also played for Ajax in Eredivisie and made his debut in 2006 while scoring 28 goals for the Dutch side before joining Spurs in 2012.
Benfica finished second in the Primeira Liga last season also announced the signing of German forward Luca Waldschmidt and Brazilian winger Everton Soares.
