Chelsea complete signing of Kai Havertz from Leverkusen for £71m
The young German prodigy signed a five-year contract with the Stamford Bridge club ahead of the new Premier League season.
Chelsea FC have completed the signing of midfielder Kai Havertz from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for a reported fee of £71m, the club announced on Friday.
Havertz became Chelsea’s sixth signing of this transfer window following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva. The signing of Havertz takes the spending of the club to nearly 200 million pounds for this summer who finished the last season in the fourth spot.
The 21-year-old Germany International played 150 games for Leverkusen in all competitions, scoring 46 goals and also registered 31 assists during his four years with the senior team.
Havertz, who plays an attacking midfielder can also play in the wings due to his technical ability as well as being comfortable with both his feet.
The signing of Kai has led the media to his comparison with Real Madrid and Belgium star Eden Hazard when he first joined the club at the same age as the German.
Chelsea travel to Amex Stadium on September 15 to face Brighton in their season opener.
