Premier League: Manchester United ease past Aston Villa
Red Devils became the first Premier League side to win four consecutive matches by three or more goals.
Manchester United continued their impressive performance and a chase for the top four spot after comfortably beating relegation-threatened Aston Villa 3-0 at Villa Park, this victory means United are now unbeaten 17 matches in all competitions.
In form, Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes gave United the lead in the 27th minute of the game after the controversial penalty awarded by referee Jon Moss. Mason Greenwood added United’s second with a spectacular strike just before the half time after some good work by Anthony Martial.
Paul Pogba confirmed the victory for Manchester United after scoring his team’s third goal of the game after a clever corner from Fernandes, who found the Frenchman outside the box and the World Cup winner scored his first league goal since April 2019 with a well-placed bottom corner shot past the Villa keeper.
“It unraveled with the first goal,” said Smith.
“I can understand Jon Moss getting it wrong but I don’t know what VAR are looking at – it’s a disgraceful decision. They have a screen they can go and look at it but they don’t seem to be bothered,” Smith added.
