Ronald Koeman named as new FC Barcelona manager

La Liga giants confirmed Koeman’s appointment on Wednesday following the sacking of Quique Setien after UEFA Champions League humiliation to Bayern.

FC Barcelona have appointed former player Ronald Koeman as their new manager on a two-year deal until June 2022.

The club moved swiftly in replacing Quique Setien who was sacked from his managerial position after their 8-2 demolition at the hands of Bayern Munich and appointed Koeman as their new head coach.

Koeman has previously managed Valencia, Ajax, PSV, Southampton, Everton and Benfica and was managing Netherlands National Team since 2018 and lead the team to the qualification of Euro 2020 before taking over at FC Barcelona.

The 57-year-old former defender played 350 matches for the Camp Nou based club between 1989 to 1995 winning four La Liga titles in a row and also helped the club in winning 1991/92 European Cup final where he scored the match-winner.

He was also a part of Johan Cruyff’s famous “Dream Team” at FC Barcelona.

Eric Abidal on Tuesday agreed to leave from his position as club’s sporting director as the club began the restructuring process ahead of the new season.
