Serie A: AS Roma appoint José Mourinho on a three-year deal

Former Inter Milan manager returns Italian top flight after eleven years to replace Paulo Fonseca.

After just 15 days from his sacking as a Tottenham manager, José Mourinho has returned to football management, joining Italian giants AS Roma on a three-year deal starting from 2021-22 season.

The 58-year old will return to the league where he enjoyed so much success with Inter Milan, having won 5 trophies with the club including UEFA Champions League in 2010.

The news came shortly after Roma owners confirmed their current manager Paulo Fonseca will leave after the end of the current season.

Mourinho, who managed Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham has won 25 major honours in his career, winning league titles in each country.

Tottenham sacked Mourinho one week before their EFL Cup final clash against Man City and thus became the first club in his career where he failed to win any title.

AS Roma currently sit seventh in the Serie A and lost the first leg of the Europa League to Mourinho’s former club Manchester United 6-2.

Fonseca will leave his position after the end of the current season when his two-year contract will expire which he signed in 2019.
